Awkwafina has been described as an American performer and actor who began her career with clever raps that tackled sexuality and racial identities with the most comical of perspectives. Her career then grew to Hollywood. Nora Lum was born to Chinese Korean immigrants living in Forest Hills Queens. Her first experience with music came through the instrument of trumpet. Apart from classical music and jazz, Nora Lum started to study hip-hop during her teens. In college, she studied writing and women's studies. Then, she even had an hour studying Mandarin in Beijing. After graduation, her focus shift to music. After gaining viral fame via the Internet and her own My Vag song My Vag was a reaction to the Mickey Avalon song My Dick. It eventually was included on the album she released, Yellow Ranger. The album also contained viral hits, such as body positive Queef and winking tour of her home NYC BitcheUSD. The last track was connected directly to Awkwafina's NYC travel guide published in 2015. With musician and author on her resume she set her sights on a third endeavor actor. Apart from the early television programs like Girl Code and Tawk, she's been featured in movies like Neighbors2Storks, and Bad Rap. In 2018, her breakthrough role was in Dude Ocean's 8 along with Crazy Rich Asians. In June, she debuted her EP "In Fina We Trust".
